Life With 2 Kids

Well, its true, we made it through the past week and a half without grandma. Lyla is being a good big sister and giving Mac lots of kisses and loves. Her favorite thing to do is kiss his little toes and the top of his head and does both multiple times a day.

Mac is sleeping about 3-4 hours a night. He just eats and goes right back to sleep so its not too bad. During the day is a different story. We try and go with the schedule of eat, awake time, nap. He loves awake time and is always very alert like Lyla was and always checking everything out. He has a hard time going down for naps alone and just likes to be cuddled instead, which sometimes I give in to but then its less time I get to play with Lyla so we are working on getting him to sleep in his bed alone.

We got pictures done at 2 weeks old. These are the only 2 we got so far, a little sneak peek. More to come when she sends the CD. I thought this first one was so cute and shows off his little hairdo. I didn't notice that his little ears kind of stick out until I saw this picture. So precious

I have fully recovered and hardly feel like I had a baby 3 weeks ago. This is a huge difference than with Lyla since I was sore for several weeks and still didn't fully recover for about a month. I feel so blessed to be feeling well since I can't imagine doing everything for 2 kiddos while still being sore and moving slowly.

I have made it out of the house about 2 times by myself with the kids now. I think once a week is about all I can handle, it so much work so the errand better be worth it otherwise we will be waiting for dad to get home. Not to mention time consuming, but trying to get them ready before lunch and Lyla's nap and in between nursing is quite the trick.

Two Weeks Old

Had his first real bath (besides sponge baths) and did amazing. He didn't even make a peep until we got him out and tried to get him dressed then got a little upset because he was getting cold. Other than that, so calm and sweet. Lyla screamed I think for about a month before she ever got used to the bath so this was a nice change up!

Went to the doc for his 2 week check-up today. Was 8 lbs. 8 oz. and 21.5 inches long. So he got back up to birth weight plus 5 oz. and grew about a half inch. He is a growing boy already!

Also got circumcised and his heel pricked. I didn't watch, I couldn't. They took him in the other room to do both and I could hear him screaming at the top of his lungs for about 25 minutes. It was a long 25 minutes. He feel asleep in the car immediately and has been sleeping nonstop the rest of the day. Not eating very well, but hopefully he will be feeling better tomorrow.

her around for meals, snuggles and stories! Hoping we make it the next 2 weeks until she comes back for the blessing

Life is going pretty well over here. We survived the first week. We are adjusting to life as a family of four and have had lots of visitors including both sets of Grandparents, Derek, Libby, Tyler, Aunt Penny and her boys, Aunt Cindy, and the Days. I think that's it...

My mom has been here helping out and has successfully kept Lyla busy and from completely mauling her little brother. She will leave this Saturday and I'm a little nervous for life on my own with two kids during the day!

Lyla has been adjusting pretty well for the most part. I can't really leave him alone though because she wants to lay on him and smother him with kisses. She gets jealous when I feed Mac because she knows I can't pay much attention to her for at least a half hour. She does like to help change his diapers though and is a good little helper.

First Bath

Lyla was so happy to see and hold a baby. Little did she know the baby was coming home, but she sure enjoyed loving on him when she came to visit!

The last meal you are there they bring in a special little dinner for 2 with sparkling cider and everything. It was pretty sweet and enjoyable as we had a few moments together before going home to the madness of life as a family of 4
All ready to go home! We left the next day around 4:30pm. Just about 24 hours later, whew, we were ready to go home and get some REAL rest

Baby Mac's Birth Story

Well, it wasn't the "ahh!! my water broke, lets go!" experience like I had hoped for, but we waited for the little guy to come on his own and just didn't want to come. So one week exactly after my due date we decided to be induced. The hospital we delivered at (Intermountain Medical Center) in Murray is SO busy, about 300-400 births a month. So instead of having a scheduled induction time we just were told we would get a call from the nurse between 6-8am to tell us what time to come in. Well, no call, so we called them at 8 SHARP, I was ready to go, had been up early and ready waiting. She said lots of women had some in the night and they weren't quite ready for me. She called back at 9:30 and said to come in at 10:15 to get paperwork started. So we went in, got everything ready and the nurse got the IV in with pitocin started and broke my water by about 10:45/11ish. Contractions started about a half hour later and by 12:30 the doc came in to give me my epidural. The contractions weren't TOO bad at that point but the doc had a c-section and wouldn't be back for at least an hour so I decided to get it going so I didn't have to wait until after. It worked like a dream as usual. We pretty much waited around until about 3pm when the nurse came to check on my progress which I had dilated to about a 6 at that point. The baby was facing the wrong way so they had me flip over to my side and put a leg up on a stirrup to try and get him to move around. We did this a few times on each leg and he finally started to turn. The nurse said at that point since it was my second baby that I should be ready to push in about an hour. It took from about 300-430 to be fully dilated. Once I started getting closer, around 4pm, the epidural started to wear off and it was not fun! I pushed the button for more drugs but we were close enough at this point that it didn't really help and the contractions were very strong and close together. It went from just feeling them a little to feeling them a LOT and so it made me super nauseous. I threw up a few times and got medicine to help the nausea which in just a few minutes started working and at least that part felt better. The nurse and doctor came in to get ready. Josh and I looked at each other and just smiled, getting excited that we were just moments from meeting our little guy. I pushed for about 10 minutes or so and he was arrived at 4:41pm. He laid on my chest and for about 2 seconds was just quiet, and then came the screaming. His cry was so sweet to hear and was a lot deeper than Lyla's was, it was truly a boy's cry! They then took him to be weighed and he came in at 8lbs 3oz and 21 inches long. We were so happy to have added another sweet child to our family and were loving every minute. Overall it was a great pregnancy, labor, and delivery and I am very happy to have a happy, healthy little boy.

He was too stubborn to come on his own, so I was induced on Monday morning and he came that afternoon. We are loving munching on his cheeks and getting some snuggles in.

3 Days Late, so far

Well, I guess its tradition now for my babies to want to stay in the belly, must be too warm and comfy in there! I was due on Monday and it's now Thursday with no signs of labor. I walked this morning, played Just Dance on the Wii and then walked again this evening and got some cramping but no contractions. I am sad he didn't come on the 19th like I wanted...so that Lyla, him, and Crew would have been all on the 19th, dangit. Oh well, he's just not ready I suppose. I did set an induction for Monday if he doesn't want to show his cute face before then. I will then be at 41 weeks and hopefully he will be like Lyla and come the day before I am supposed to be induced :) Stay tuned...

7 More Days...

I am now 39 weeks and only have 7 more days until my due date, Jan 16th. I know it's crazy but I'm really hoping to go over...just a few days, until the 19th. Then this baby will be Jan 19th, Lyla Feb 19th, and Crew on March 19th. I think that would be pretty cool and would sacrifice waiting a few more days for that awesomeness.

Some days, or at least different times of every day, I'm either really excited and want him to come right now, or other times all I can remember is how hard and exhausting those first few months are. I am mostly excited but it is different this time because I actually know what it's like when they come! And this time will be really interesting with a full-on 2 year old on my hands at the same time...

Speaking of that 2 year old, she is making us laugh more and more every day. She does the cutest little things and is getting bigger and learning new words all the time. I hope I am able to stretch my time and attention between a newborn and her and that she doesn't feel like I'm abandoning her. Just to sit and play with her makes her so happy and I really am hoping I can still do that with another addition and being so tired. It will be an adjustment for everyone and I know it will work out, just a little nervous for the transition time.

Welp, off to bed. It's getting to that time where I have some weird delivery or pregnancy dream every night, interrupted by having to pee at 4 am, haha

Safety Pin PJ's

For the last few weeks we have had to do this:

She LOVES taking her clothes and diaper off. She always wakes up with wet blankets and sheets and doesn't seem to mind since she sleeps through it all. The safety pin idea has worked up until last night when she pulled some magic trick and STILL got her pj's off by some miracle, with the safety pin still hooked on. I'm sure it took some acrobatics to get them zipped all the way down, but I think potty training might have to be in the near future...
